My recipe combines rich tahini, zesty lemon juice, and a hint of garlic for a burst of flavor in every bite. This tahini sauce will quickly become your go-to condiment for any meal! We usually have a jar of tahini in our cupboard because we always make our own Hummus from scratch. This time I wanted to make something that focused more on the nutty sesame seed flavors. Tahini sauce is a very common condiment in the eastern Mediterranean, and it goes with a variety of dishes. I love it with Falafel, kebabs like Shish Tawook, and as a tzatziki alternative with Chicken Shawarma.
Ingredients Needed
Tahini – The star ingredient, made from ground toasted sesame seeds. I get it from the international section of my local supermarket, but if you can’t find it in yours check specialty stores or online. Lemon juice – Freshly squeezed. This gives the sauce some nice fresh zing. Garlic – Not so much to overpower the other ingredients, but just enough to add its presence. Ice water – I add this gradually until the sauce reaches my desired consistency. Sea salt – Feel free to adjust the amount based on your palate.
Tahini Sauce Recipe
First I add the tahini, lemon juice and minced garlic in a bowl, along with about 4 tablespoons of ice water. I mix it well, then gradually stir in more water until I get the consistency I prefer. This is at around six total tablespoons of water. Then I give it a taste, add in my salt, and give it a final stir.
Serving Suggestions
As I mentioned earlier, tahini sauce is great with falafel, kebabs and shawarma. Here are some other ideas:
Serve it as appetizer dip with cut up veggies and pita bread. I like to thin it down with a little more water and use it as a salad dressing. Drizzle tahini sauce over grilled or roasted vegetables or meats. Make it part of a Mezze Platter along with other dips like Melitzanosalata and Baba Ganoush. Sometimes I’ll even use it as a condiment for sandwiches and wraps.
There you go, one more great sauce to add to your collection. If you try this recipe, please leave a star rating and comment, we love to hear from you. And be sure to stay in the loop by subscribing to our newsletter or following us on Pinterest.
