We LOVE Oreos and all things cookies & cream over here, so when I wanted to make balloon chocolate bowls, it’s no surprise I thought Oreos needed to be a part of it too! I’ve used white chocolate and regular Oreo cookies, but it’s the simple method that gives these edible chocolate bowls the real WOW factor—the Oreos just make it even better. You can make chocolate balloon bowls the same way just using plain chocolate. Chocolate dessert bowls are one of those fancy things you get at fancy restaurants, but you can have them at home any time you want with just a few easy steps. These dessert bowls are an easy way to take your dinner party dessert to the next level. This is a great recipe for getting the kids involved, because who doesn’t love balloons? They’ll love blowing the balloons up, making the chocolate mixture, and dipping the balloons into it. If you’re mad about Oreos like we are, try my other Oreo-inspired desserts like these Oreo Cupcakes, Oreo Balls (aka Oreo Truffles), my Oreo Milkshake recipe, this Easy Oreo Dip, or my Oreo Cream Pie!
What You’ll Need
White chocolate melting wafers – You can use a chopped white chocolate baking bar or even high quality white chocolate chips instead if you prefer, although they tend to not melt as easily as the melting wafers. You could do these with regular milk, semisweet, or dark chocolate too, if you prefer. Oreos – I used regular Oreos for this recipe, but if you’re not an Oreo person, you can use any chocolate cookie you’d like. Chocolate chip cookies would work too! Something to fill the bowls – Use any ice cream flavor you would like like vanilla, chocolate, or cookies & cream. You can also choose to fill the balloon bowls with other yummy treats, such as my Chocolate Mousse or Easy Oreo Dip, or even just mini Reese’s or M&M’s.

Tips for Success
Bear in mind that the size of the tip of your balloon will be the size of your bowl. You can make small, deeper bowls by using smaller balloons, or larger, shallow ones by using large balloons. Choose the size you want before blowing your balloons up. Water balloons are small balloons that are thicker than party balloons, so they tend to work better for chocolate bowls.
Substitutions and Variations
Use another kind of chocolate. You can use a different kind of chocolate for this recipe to get the flavor you prefer. Try semisweet chocolate chips, bittersweet chocolate, milk chocolate, or even colored candy melts to match your special event, like red for the holidays, pink or blue for a baby shower, white for a bridal shower, or green for St. Patrick’s Day! Use other cookies. You can use any cookies for this recipe, I just love the combination of white chocolate and Oreos. Try a different kind of Oreo, Biscoff cookies, chocolate chip cookies, or gingerbread cookies for a different flavor. Decorate the bowls. You can decorate the bowls with extra edible decorations to make them extra special. Try a thin drizzle of melted chocolate over the outside or inside of the bowls before adding your ice cream or chilled treats. You could also add chocolate curls, dust with edible glitter, or sprinkle confetti sprinkles on top.

Add a base: Before you dip the balloons into the melted chocolate mixture, put a dollop of melted chocolate mixture onto the parchment paper where you’ll be placing the ballons to make chocolate bases. Once dipped, you can sit the balloons on top of the circle and when it all dries and hardens it will create a flat surfaced bowl that might be easier for serving. Change the size: Bear in mind that the size of the tip of your balloon will be the size of your bowl. You can make small, deeper bowls by using smaller balloons, or larger, shallow ones by using large balloons. Choose the size you want before blowing your balloons up.
