It’s creamy, tangy, fresh, and the perfect accompaniment to your fried seafood and more! I love my fried seafood, but without a side of tartar sauce the meal is just incomplete. I mean, can you imagine a big basket of Fried Catfish without that tangy, creamy goodness to dip it in? Well, having grown up in a family of avid fishermen, I was whipping up bowls of tartar sauce long before I ever turned on a stove. So I like to think I have it perfected. While store-bought options are available, you really should make my homemade recipe. Your seafood platter will thank you!
Ingredient Notes
Mayonnaise – My favorite is Duke’s, but you can use any high quality mayo you prefer. Dill Pickles – Adds that tangy crunch. In a pinch, you can use relish, but I like to chop my own dills. Lemon Juice – Only fresh squeezed, please. Fresh Dill – I love fresh here. If you’re in a pinch and don’t have any on hand, replace with 1 teaspoon of dried dill. Salt, pepper, and sugar – To taste, if necessary. It depends on your palate, and your mayo.
Easy Tartar Sauce Recipe
Mix everything in a bowl. Taste and adjust… Easy, huh?
How to Serve It
Use it as a dip for Fried Green Tomatoes or Salmon Patties, or slather it on a Shrimp po’ Boy. It’s also a nice dipping sauce to add to a crudité platter, as well as some cooked veggies like Roasted Broccoli, Roasted Asparagus or Steak Fries. I also like to substitute it in for regular mayo for sandwiches, wraps and burgers for a little extra zing. It’s great on our Salmon Burgers. In case you didn’t know, tartar sauce gets its name from the French dish Steak Tartare, with which the sauce was commonly served in the 19th century. No thanks, I’ll stick to the fried seafood!
