Ready to party? Consider making Crispy Loaded Potato Skins, Grape Jelly Meatballs, or Jalapeño Popper Pigs in a Blanket to go with this tasty dip! It’s no secret that when it comes to the Super Bowl, I’m really there for the half-time show and watching the creative commercials each year. And most definitely the party food. Every year we get together with friends and forego a “real” dinner in favor of all our favorite appetizers and finger foods. That includes desserts, which are even more fun when they are football-themed like this cookies & cream cheesecake dip! Made with just a handful of ingredients, you get all that great cookies & cream flavor in a scoopable form shaped to resemble a football. It doesn’t even take any fancy decorating skills to pull this one off and your friends and family will definitely be impressed.
Why this Recipe Works
So easy! The actual work that goes into this yummy dip is minimal. Even kids can make it and feel like a total rock star in the kitchen. Choose your favorite dippers. Serve it with your favorite dessert dippers, whether that’s more Oreo cookies, salty pretzels, or something healthy like crisp apples or sweet strawberries. Make-ahead friendly! This dip can be made days in advance and have it ready to go when it’s game time!
Ingredient Notes
Cream cheese: I recommend using full-fat cream cheese for best results, but even reduced fat neufchatel will work. Oreo cookies: You can use regular or mini Oreos, it doesn’t matter. Or go crazy and grab flavored Oreos like the peanut butter or mint ones for something different! Mini chocolate chips: Regular size chocolate chips are too big for enjoyable scooping and eating, but the mini ones work perfectly and provide better coverage for the outside of the dessert cheeseball.
How to Make This Recipe
Start by beating the softened butter and cream cheese together in a bowl with a hand mixer until smooth and well-combined. This is much harder to do if both the butter and cream cheese are cold, so let them sit out for at least 30 minutes first. Add the powdered sugar and mix until combined. Be sure to scrape the bottom and sides of the bowl so everything gets evenly mixed together and you don’t end up with pockets of cream cheese that didn’t get mixed in very well. Add crushed Oreo cookie crumbs and stir until combined. The mixture will be pretty soft and about like the consistency of thick frosting at this point. Lay a large piece of plastic wrap on a flat surface and scoop all of the Oreo cheeseball mixture into a mound right in the center. Wrap it up, using the plastic wrap to help you shape the mixture into a football shape and wrap it up well. It doesn’t need to be perfect because any flaws in the shape will mostly be covered up once the cheeseball gets covered in mini chocolate chips. Chill for 1 hour in the fridge to help firm up the cheese football. Once the football is cold and easier to handle, unwrap and press into the mini chocolate chips sprinkled in an even layer on a shallow plate or pan. Make sure to coat the top and edges well for full coverage. You can gently mold or shape the football more to your liking with your hands at this point. Transfer to a large serving plate. Use a little white frosting or melted white chocolate chips or candy melts to pipe lines on top of the football to finish the look. You could also just carefully arrange white chocolate chips in lines instead if you prefer, although that’s a bit fussier and doesn’t look quite as nice in my experience. Arrange lots of dessert dipping options around your cookies & cream cheesecake dip just before serving. If you are planning on making this ahead and taking it with you to a party, I recommend waiting to add your dippers until you get there so they don’t get soft or stale.
What to Serve With This Dip
Really this dip is great with anything you can think of that is sturdy enough to scoop up some of the dip. Here are some of our favorite ideas:
Oreos (yes, this is already made with Oreos, but that doesn’t stop us from enjoying it with even more of America’s favorite cookies) Graham crackers (classic honey flavored or chocolate grahams are both excellent) Nilla Wafers (original or mini) Pretzel twists Chessmen cookies Fresh fruit (strawberries and apple slices work particularly well, but even pineapple and grapes are delicious with this dip)
Recipe Tips
Storage: This can be completely made ahead and stored in the refrigerator tightly wrapped for up to 5 days! It’s very easy to throw together and store, so it’s perfect to bring to a party. Freezing: This dessert ball freezes well for up to 2 months. Just cover with plastic wrap to freeze it, then thaw overnight in the fridge before serving. Variations: Use any type of Oreo cookie you like for the inside of the cheesecake dip. Or instead of using mini chocolate chips to coat the outside, try rolling the cheesecake ball in your favorite crushed cookies instead.
