How can it not be cool? It has cool mint and cooler yogurt with another great herb, my very favorite, cilantro… some fresh lemon and jalapeño and a tiny hint of ginger and garlic… Just 5 minutes of your life is all it demands!! This could be your dressing and give a new meaning to your regular salads. All those Buddha bowls, wraps, sandwiches, roasted veggies… Then this could be your new favorite marinade. Imagine some chicken bites marinated for a few hours before you put them on the grill… And then it could be your dipping sauce. In fact, it is one of the most in demand sauces to accompany those famous kebab appetizers. It’s so common in Indian restaurants that it often comes free with the main dish as a side or condiment. You just can’t imagine eating those Chicken Tikkas without dipping them in this cool mintiness. But I don’t limit its presence to just Indian food here at the Beisers’. It’s so easy to make and refrigerates so well. A nice jarful of this sauce can give company to your salads or Buddha bowls all week long. Easy, delicious lunches, guys! I make it more often in summer time, as my mint is all spruced up from soaking in the sun. It’s amazing how my mint does so well on my balcony with the salty Florida air considering it comes from the wild mountains of North Carolina. My balcony is full of my herby friends like basil, rosemary, thyme, sage, mint… some sturdier than others. But overall my rosemary and mint always do great throughout the year. I strongly recommend having these herbs around to add that freshness and flavor to your everyday food. Coming back to this cilantro mint chutney, it’s one of the most forgiving sauces you will ever make. You like more mint? Add it! Tangier? Add more lemon juice. Creamier? More yogurt! Don’t like garlic? Skip it. Make it just the way YOU like it!

Ingredients Needed

Cilantro Mint – I bet you guessed the first two! Yogurt – The base Ginger and Garlic – These always go together in Indian! Jalepeño – For a little kick. Lemon Juice – For a little tang. Salt, pepper and sugar – To your taste.

Cilantro Mint Chutney Recipe

I start by throwing some cilantro and mint leaves into my blender. Then, I add a jalapeño, a bit of ginger, some garlic, and a splash of lemon juice. If it’s not blending smoothly, I just add a tablespoon of water until I get that perfect consistency. Next, I stir in some yogurt and blend it all together until it’s creamy. Then I give it a taste and adjust the flavors by adding a little sugar, salt, and pepper if needed. That’s it, you are ready for some awesome meals with the help of this delicious dip, or sauce, or chutney… whatever you want to call it!! I call it MY SPICY GREEN MAGIC SAUCE !!

Storing

This refrigerates great in a sealed container for 4-5 days. If you want to freeze it, omit the yogurt and add it in later. I hope you love my cool cilantro mint chutney as much as we do.
