The combination of warm and gooey cheddar cheese, perfectly cooked and buttery scrambled eggs, and tender ham is pure breakfast bliss. The Hawaiian roll adds a touch of sweetness that balances the saltiness of the ham and cheese! To take these savory Breakfast Sliders to the next level of indulgence, we’ve added a luscious maple butter topping that includes crushed French fried onions, sesame, and poppy seeds. This sweet, buttery glaze infuses each slider with a subtle hint of maple sweetness, enhancing the overall flavor profile and providing a delightful contrast to the savory ingredients. Why We Love This Recipe
Change the flavor of these rolls easily by using a different meat, type of cheese, or herbs in the buttery glaze. We’ll be using fresh ingredients for the best flavor in these sliders. Quick and easy, this is a great breakfast recipes for the holidays!
What You’ll Need
Scroll down to the recipe card below this post for ingredient quantities and full instructions.
Butter – Use salted butter to enhance the flavors. You’ll need some for making scrambled eggs and also as a base for the poppy seed glaze. Eggs – To add protein and a delicious eggy, buttery flavor to the sliders. Salt & Pepper – Use kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper to enhance all the flavors. Rolls – We love using Hawaiian rolls as they add a bit of sweet decadence to these sliders, but any small slider rolls will work well here. Ham – The best ham to use for this recipe is thinly sliced deli ham but you can also use any leftover ham. Cheese – Use cheddar cheese or American cheese for a classic slider taste, or use another kind of cheese for a different flavor.
How to Make Breakfast Sliders
Tips for Success
If you opt to use American cheese slices, like the Kraft ones, we found the American cheese from the deli gave us the best results for ooey, gooey, melty cheese. The taste and quality are better. This recipe was tested with eight eggs and then ten eggs. Eight will sufficiently fill the buns, but we found that ten eggs provided a thicker layer that just worked a little better.
Substitutions and Variations
If you prefer a more creamy scrambled egg mixture, replace the water with milk. Colby Jack cheese, pepper jack cheese, and monterey jack cheese are some of our other favorite cheese options that would be delicious on these sliders instead of American or cheddar. For recipe testing, we used deli ham off the bone. It made layering super easy, and the ham was tender. We do not recommend using ham steak or thickly sliced deli meat, but this would be a great recipe for using any leftover ham from a holiday dinner. Try using cooked bacon, sausage patties, sliced Turkey or even chicken if you don’t like ham.
