What You’ll Need

Flour – All-purpose flour is great here. You can try a gluten-free version if you prefer, but I haven’t personally tried this yet. Baking powder & baking soda – Use a combination of these rising agents to ensure your donuts are light and fluffy! Salt – Enhances all the flavors of these donuts! Egg – Assists in binding the donut batter and getting a nice crumb. Granulated sugar – Sweetens the donuts along with the strawberries. Vegetable oil – Or you can also use canola oil or melted butter. Sour cream – Helps keep the donuts moist. Vanilla extract – Adds a subtle warmth that blends so well with the sweetness of the strawberries. Strawberries – Use fresh strawberries in the donut batter and the glaze for best results. You can use frozen strawberries in a pinch, or if you’re making these out of strawberry season. Powdered sugar – Also known as confectioner’s sugar, this will be the base of the strawberry glaze.
How to Make Baked Strawberry Donuts
Tips for Success
If strawberries aren’t in season, frozen strawberries can be substituted for fresh ones. Frozen strawberries may change the color of the donuts slightly. I haven’t tried this recipe with freeze-dried strawberries, and the amount needed will vary compared to fresh strawberries, but you’re welcome to give it a go and let me know how you get on! Serve with a cold glass of milk for a morning or afternoon treat!
Substitutions and Variations
Try some other fresh berries to make your donuts a different flavor. Blueberries, raspberries, or cherries would work well here too. You can blitz your strawberries in a food processor (affiliate link) to make a strawberry puree for the glaze if you prefer that over mashing them, although we like the flecks and bits of visible strawberry. You can also substitute some of the diced strawberries for strawberry puree for more of a natural pink color to them. Add some red or pink food coloring (affiliate link) to give your donuts a vibrant color if you’re making them for a special event! Try using some lemon juice and lemon zest in the sweet strawberry glaze for a Strawberry Lemonade flavor!
